Oh What A Night!
I was feeling down earlier today, but now I can’t wipe the smile off my face. The planets must be aligned or something. There was a great turnout at Eyebar tonight, including several friends I hadn’t seen in a while. I was able to hang out with them for over an hour before I had to hop on the decks. Allow me to toot my own horn: Kris Murphy and I rocked the club. I am kicking myself...

2009 Environmental Film Festival in DC: March... →
This is the 17th annual EFF in DC! Why am I just reading about it now? 130 films are featured this year, and most screenings are free!
Here are some that stood out:
Showing at the Embassy of Croatia (Hrvatska!) on Friday, March 13 @ 7pm (FREE):
KORNATI (Croatia, 2008, 29 min.) The Kornati archipelago consists of 140 islands, islets and cliffs, 89 of which were declared a national park because...
Over 900 concerts available on Canada's CBC Radio... →
I don’t know most of the artists featured, but I did find this great concert by the Ron Paley Trio. It’s a tribute to Oscar Peterson, a Canadian jazz pianist (one of my favorites) who sadly passed away on December 23, 2007. Playing alongside Ron Paley (piano) are two former members of Oscar Peterson’s trio: Dave Young (bass) and Terry Clarke (drums).
What I love about the...

Virginia passes smoking ban! →
Yay! Finally! No more stinky clothes after DJ’ing at Guarapo. It takes effect on Dec. 1 and bans smoking “in most restaurants and bars, although it would be permitted in private clubs, on some outdoor patios and in separate ventilated rooms.”

Restaurant deals in DC and VA
Here are a couple of ongoing deals that caught my eye while reading metrocurean:
First Tuesday of every month at Perrys in DC: $25 per couple gets each person one starter, one main and one drink from a special menu.
2941 in Falls Church is now offering a three-course bar tasting menu for $44 per person. Available Monday through Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the bar.
While we’re talking...

Notes are now available in tumblelogs
staff:
We’re about to start rolling out a bunch of features focused on interaction between tumblelog authors and their readers. Post notes are going to be the glue for all of this interaction, so we’d like to ask all theme designers (and anyone with custom themes) to incorporate this new tag:
{PostNotes}
This will render the post’s notes (including reblogs and likes) on their permalink pages....

This is one of several videos I took of Mark de Clive-Lowe & Vanessa Freeman @ Bohemian Caverns in DC last night. Mark and Vanessa have been touring the world giving these improvised shows called “Freesoul Sessions.” Mark creates beats on the fly with his Akai MPC 3000, then adds the bassline and soulful, jazzy chords with his various synths, and Vanessa lays down the sultry...

The 100 Most Beautiful Words in English →
I wouldn’t classify all of these as “beautiful” since some don’t exactly roll off the tongue, but this list includes some of my favorites:
loquacious: talkative.
mellifluous: sweet-sounding.
mondegreen: a misanalyzed phrase. (There’s a story behind this one.)
onomatopoeia: the creation of words by imitating sound.
plethora: a great excess, overabundance.

How to make sure your Wordpress 2.7.1 upgrade goes...
Today, when I tried to use the built-in automatic upgrade function (for monfresh.com), I got the following error:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pclzip in /home/”example”/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 171
If you see this too, it’s probably because you have the “Wordpress Automatic Upgrade” plugin installed. This plugin is no longer...
