The 100 Most Beautiful Words in English
I wouldn’t classify all of these as “beautiful” since some don’t exactly roll off the tongue, but this list includes some of my favorites:
loquacious: talkative.
mellifluous: sweet-sounding.
mondegreen: a misanalyzed phrase. (There’s a story behind this one.)
onomatopoeia: the creation of words by imitating sound.
plethora: a great excess, overabundance.
surreptitious: sneaky.
Here are some that I would have included in my personal list:
acquiesce: accept something reluctantly but without protest.
disheveled: (of a person’s hair, clothes, or appearance) untidy; disordered.
evanescent: quickly fading or disappearing.
interstitial: of, forming, or occupying interstices: an intervening space, esp. a very small one
reminisce: indulge in enjoyable recollection of past events.
