grain edit has a post about Finnish illustrator Sanna Paananen, who designed the album cover above for The Five Corners Quintet. Hot Corner, their latest album on the excellent Finnish NuJazz label Ricky-Tick (to be released in the US on March 24 on Milan Records), won two Emma awards at the 2009 Finnish Recording Industry Awards. I’m happy for them, but I’m not too thrilled about this album. I prefer their earlier stuff, like “Trading Eights”, their very first single. Audio post coming up.
