I watched this great documentary today from the Independent Lens series on PBS Video.

COPYRIGHT CRIMINALS examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over artistic expression, copyright law and money. The film showcases many of hip-hop music’s founding figures like Public Enemy, De La Soul and Digital Underground, as well as emerging artists such as audiovisual remixers Eclectic Method. It also provides first-person interviews with artists who have been sampled, such as Clyde Stubblefield — James Brown’s drummer and the world’s most sampled musician — and commentary by another highly sampled musician, funk legend George Clinton.

Ability to create your own Favorite Lists
Random Generator
Endless scrolling (just keep pressing the space bar and new images will start loading)
Two image size choices: 100 and 250

Here’s an excerpt:

The team of researchers from Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History ordered tuna from 31 sushi restaurants and then used genetic tests to determine the species of fishes in those dishes. More than half of those eateries misrepresented, or couldn’t clarify the type of fish they were mongering. Several were selling endangered southern bluefin tuna.

If you own an iPhone and enjoy photography, then you have probably bought or heard of CameraBag. Through various filters you can choose from, it recreates the look and feel of old school film cameras and processing techniques. Now, for $19, you can have those same filters (except Fisheye and Infrared) on your Mac.

I’ve posted about retro furniture before, but you can’t get much more retro than bean bag chairs. Today’s bean bags aren’t necessarily gross vinyl in ugly colors anymore. Check out the bean bag chairs from AHH! Products (as in ahhh…that’s comfy) - they’ve turned bean bags into real furniture fit for kids and adults. Even celebs dig them! I’ve got a terracotta velvet bean bag in my living room and it’s one of my softest and most comfortable pieces of furniture. I think I’ve had it for over 5 years now, and it matches the great rug I got in Morocco. Plus, the cover is removable and machine washable.
